FIRST GENERATION Tony Hillerman’s body of work
includes 18 novels in the Navajo Tribal Police series,
which stars protagonists Joe Leaphorn and Jim Chee
and began with The Blessing Way in 1970. He was
named a Mystery Writers of America Grand Master,
akin to a lifetime achievement award, in 1991.
SECOND GENERATION Anne Hillerman continued the
series after her father’s death in 2008, with Spider
Woman’s Daughter (Harper, 2013) and Rock with Wings
(Harper, 2015). A third, as-yet-untitled entry is scheduled for January 2016.
