January 1. The transaction adds 54
attorneys and a number of non-lawyer professionals and industry
specialists to Cooley’s office in the
capital. The Dow Lohnes group
is organized around three broad
industry sectors: communications,
higher education, and media. The
deal will catapult Cooley into a Top-
30 Washington, D.C., law firm by size,
providing comprehensive “inside
the Beltway” regulatory experience.
Over the past two years, Cooley has
expanded its Washington office
by about 50 percent, bringing the
number of attorneys there prior to the
Dow Lohnes merger to about 80.
Michael Friedman, Larry G. Halperin,
Joon P. Hong, and Nicholas A.
Whitney, formerly of Richards Kibbe
& Orbe LLP, have joined the New York
office of Chapman and Cutler LLP as
partners in the commercial lending
and bankruptcy/workout practices.
The firm has offices in Chicago; New
York; Salt Lake City; San Francisco;
and Washington, D.C., dedicated
to representing financial services
clients with respect to transactional,
regulatory, and litigation matters.
Gordon Brothers Group, a global
advisory, restructuring, and investment
firm specializing in the retail,
consumer products, industrial, and real
estate sectors, has acquired Appraisal
Systems Inc. (ASI), which focuses on
oil- and gas-related machinery and
equipment valuations. The acquisition
of this Texas-based company led to
the formation of GB Energy Partners,
which combines the energy resources
of Gordon Brothers Group; Emerald
Technology Valuations, which Gordon
Brothers acquired last year; and ASI
into one comprehensive appraisal and
disposition platform. The ASI team
is led by ASAs Jason Jones and Larry
Lough, who have decades of hands-
on experience in the energy sector,
including oil and gas field services,
onshore and offshore rigs, fracking
equipment, short-line railroad, and
pipe and valve. In addition, Ryan Ray
has joined Gordon Brothers’ Appraisal
& Valuation Division as a director,
business development, serving
the Midwest Region and Eastern
Canada. He works with asset-based
lenders, private equity sponsors, and
corporate management teams to help
them understand the underlying
value of all types of assets, including
inventory, machinery and equipment,
intellectual property, and real estate.
Vito J. Iacovazzi has joined the
Global Capital Markets Team at
Wilmington Trust as a vice president.
He focuses on all restructuring-related services, including
successor indenture trusteeships,
successor loan agent services, and
disbursing agent services. J
