YOU GUYS ARE
Although I love your
technical acumen, espe-
cially in relationship to
some of what passes
for knowledge at other
media outlets, but you
are wrong about the
transmission on the 2016
KTM 450SXF. You wrote
that it was a five-speed,
but I went out in the
garage and clicked my
450SXF through the gears
and there are four. You
don’t have to apologize,
just fix it on the Internet
version of the test.
Although we were
unable to hear how you
in your e-mail, we are
pretty sure that you
are European. All KTM
450SXFs imported into
the United States have
The Euro models have
four speeds. You don’t
have to apologize.

WHATEVER HAPPENED TO
CRAZY DAVE, JIMMY MAC &
THE FLOYD BROTHERS?
I’m a loyal reader of “Jody’s Box”
and have been for decades. I even
got my wife hooked—even if that’s
the only page in MXA that she will
read. I know the characters in Jody’s
columns are based on actual people,
but I always wonder what happened
to the real people they were based
on. Where are Crazy Dave, Jimmy
Mac and the Floyd brothers today?
Crazy Dave quit racing three years
ago and took up golf. Jimmy Mac
worked at Mountain Bike Action for
almost 20 years, but left the mag to
pursue the life of a country squire.
As for the Floyd brothers, Monte
died of cancer a few years ago, but
Jimmy still comes out to the track
on occasion. Fred Phalange is still
racing weekly, but his brother
Stumpy joined a cult.
Man, you guys are brutal in your
assessment of the WP 4CS forks.
I know they aren’t great, but they
can’t be as bad as you make them
out to be.
Yes, they can. However, we think
that the Kayaba PS2 forks on the
CRF450 and Showa SFF TAC forks
on the Suzuki RM-Z450 are much
worse. At least the WP 4CS forks
work for someone. Please turn to
page 54 to read a review of the
new WP AER air forks that will
come stock on the 2017 KTMs and
Husqvarnas. We were pleasantly
surprised by how well they worked.
