The Comp Evo is
boot. It features all the
bells and whistles that
a top-tier boot should.
Its unique Double Flex
Control system allows
the boot to angle up
to 18 degrees forward
and 15 degrees rearward. This allows for
flexibility while providing a progressive stop
to avoid overextension
of the ankle joint.
Michelin supplies the
proprietary rubber sole
for durability and grip.
The boot features an
exterior and a soft
internal upper with double Velcro fastening.
VERDICT: This boot is built for performance and
longevity. The Michelin rubber makes the boot stick to
the pegs yet doesn’t show excessive wear. The bulletproof aluminum buckles latch with ease and stay closed.
Overall, our testers loved these boots.

22 intake vents and six exhaust vents to keep your head
cool and dry. The SE4 utilizes three separate EPS foam
layers that vary in density. The use of EPS in the most
critical areas is a big step forward in helmet design.
VERDICT: The Troy Lee Designs SE4 helmet is head
over heels better than the previous SE3. And, it has
joined the safety movement thanks to creative use of
EPS, MIPS, weight and an extra-thick foam liner. It is a
helmet that offers comfort, safety and, of course, style.

STI HEAVY DUTY INNER TUBES
The typical OEM tube is 0.8mm to 1mm thick. STI
inner tubes come in three different thicknesses: Heavy
Duty (2mm thick), Extreme Duty (3mm thick) and Ultra
Heavy Duty (4mm thick). Motocrossers would never use
an STI Extreme Duty or Ultra Heavy Duty tube for
racing, because that would be overkill, but we run
STI’s 2mm-thick tubes whenever the track is rocky or
square-edged, which describes most SoCal tracks.
VERDICT: STI’s Heavy Duty tube is heavier than a
regular tube. Extra weight isn’t a performance-enhancer,
but neither is a flat tire. Sometimes you have to play it
safe. STI’s Heavy Duty tube is only $12.95 (less than the
price of a regular replacement inner tube).

CYCRA FULL ARMOR YZ450F
MXA installed the Cycra Full Armor skid plate on
our 2016 Yamaha YZ450F. Why the Yamaha? Because
we have suffered both case and water-hose damage on
Yamahas in the past. Yamahas come with a small plastic
guard for the water pump, but it is only sturdy enough
to ward off roost. The benefits of Cycra’s plastic skid
plate is that it can be color-matched, is flexible enough
not to drastically stiffen a bike’s frame and weighs less.
VERDICT: Colors include blue and gold for Yamahas
(black and gray are also available for all Full Armor
skid plates), green for Kawasakis, blue and yellow for
Husqvarnas, yellow for Suzukis, red for Hondas, and
orange for KTMs.
