True blue: A few minutes with the spoke wrench got the wheel
true enough to spin without making contact.
Tired tires: The tires’ sidewalls were rotted from sun exposure. We
tossed them and put on a nice, meaty, 2.4-inch set of CST
Caballero tires. There was still plenty of clearance, and the new
rubber would make this bike come back to life.
Shiftless: The rear derailleur shifter was locked solid, and lubing
it wouldn’t free it. We tightened the rear derailleur cable so the
chain was held in the center cog (rather than the 12-toother). At
least the bike would be a ridable three-speed until the owner
could afford a new shifter.
