FOREVER IN MOTION
What does Porsche mean to you?
I had a long career in motorsports –
probably 30 seasons – and drove many
different types of cars, including Formula 1.
But what defined it was Porsche and the
10 years I spent with them in long-distance
racing. Porsche gave me an unbelievable
opportunity to score so many victories,
including four of my six Le Mans wins.
But you achieve what you achieve
because you’re surrounded with the right
people; you never win alone. If you have
the privilege to drive for Porsche, you
know that you have a potentially winning
car in your hands. But that car has been
made by people who you never meet most
of the time – hundreds of people who
share your desire to be the best and to
win. The driver might take the glory, but
it’s because of the people on your side.
Without them, no victories are possible.
What are your defining memories?
When you don’t expect anything special
in motor racing and you receive all I have
received, you have to be extremely
grateful for everything. For a driver, the
best and lasting memories always come
from the cars you are winning with, and
Porsche gave me plenty of those.
