world of television over the years.
So how does drag racing mesh with
reality TV? It would be easy to lump in
Won & Done with other reality TV shows
that are more scripted than reality.
In keeping with MAVTV’s tag line of
“American Real,” there are no scripts. It’s
two drag racers coming to the terms of
the race and lining up. It begins with the
venue – not some fancy closed set at a
big-time NHRA track. Won & Done is
filmed at Southern California’s Irwindale
Events Center, on its eighth-mile drag
strip during the track’s regular “Thursday
Night Thunder” test-and-tune sessions.
The participants aren’t actors, or pros
or even heavily pre-screened candidates.

about dialing in their car or just getting in
some runs on a Thursday night.
While the producers aren’t quite ready to
divulge exactly how they choose vehicles
and drivers and pair them up, everything
after that plays out on camera. It starts with
the negotiation. Whether the two vehicles
are similar or vastly different, the drivers
and crew chiefs must come up with terms
that they believe are fair or there’s no race.
And they only have 10 minutes to do it.
