FIRST RACING HERO AJ Foyt: I
met him right after I began racing
quarter-midgets at the age of eight.
FIRST ROAD CAR ’ 94 Chevy Tahoe.
FIRST RACECAR That would be a
FIRST RACE Quarter-midget race at
Mini Hulman Speedway at Terre Haute.
FIRST VICTORY First race! In fact, I
won my first eight Q-M races.
FIRS T ACCIDENT I can’t remember

first year! But my first “big car’ wreck
was in 1998 in a regular USAC
midget at 16th St. Speedway. That

FIRST PAYCHECK That would be
when I was about 14. I was a cart boy
at Brickyard Crossing Golf Course at
Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
It wasn’t the snowiest Swedish Rally - far from it – but eventual winner Jari-Matti
Latvala was still able to demonstrate his balletic car control. Top marks for style!
Bobby Rahal’s IndyCar squad
lent its technical expertise to
developing BMW’s bobsleds
for the U.S. Olympic team.
“You have to make very tough calls in real time, and
both of our organizations can benefit from talking
about such things to see how we can do things better.”
DERRICK WALKER on IndyCar/IMSA cooperation
With an F1 World
500 trophy and
IndyCar title far in
his rearview mirror,
continues to tackle
new racing styles.
This year he’s
Peugeot – and got
in a few digs on the
state of modern
Formula 1 at the
